Well as the topic says this is about running with Crohn's. Before Diagnosis I had run the Nashville marathon 2 months prior and did well. Since diagnosis I try to run marathons but its hard and have lost multiple races due to the crohn's flaring up on race day or the evening before.
I ask what can be done, does anyone have any ideas.
I particularly am interested in an opinions or testimonies about diet and marathoning. I feel like I cant get the nutrients i need to train and race properly. I really want Boston, but am afaid the crohn's will give me the middle finger on that goal. Especially since the crohn's apparently spread last Fall.

Hi,
I don't have Crohn's but Colitis. But since running is my passion and I also have a BQ goal I feel I need to say something.
For me it's trial and error. I had a race in Tacoma in spring and I felt on top of the world. I felt so good, did not go to the bathroom once and had a huge PR. This October I had a marathon in Utah and was ready and trained to get my BQ. But no such thing. At the half way point my intestines had other plans and made me visit every port a potty from there on. (plus some visits behind the trees!!!) I was disappointed to say the least.
However I know that the BQ will come, it might take me a bit longer than when I would not have colitis but that is my life and the cards that I have been dealt. I keep on pushing and training hard and really enjoying all my runs that I feel good.
There are many runs that I feel good but also many that I am frustrated and ready to cry and break down because i feel so awful. In the end it's all worth it, at least for me.
Running gives me a lot in my life and I don't want to do without it.
When it comes to diet, you just have to figure out what works for you. Try things out before your long runs and see what it does. I recommend starting a log and write everything down. And still.......there will be many surprises.
I hope you will keep on running!!!
