I have recently diagnosed with uc, but have had severe symptoms since 2004. Daily chronic diarrhea, cramps. I lost 50 lbs in 2004;. Since then I have gained that back and some. Im about 80 lbs overweight. How can a person gain weight when they have diarrhea at least 20 times a day? I: eat very little.

I too suffer from weight gain.  Recent issues has me eating the plan dr. provided, but does not always work well with my tummy.  I am at a loss as to how to keep on track.  Had half a meal yesterday out with friends, first time in ages, of fish, roasted vegs and potato - pain almost immediate and a night of suffering.  I do not want to use drugs.  Have any of you tried Heather's fennell tea I keep hearing about???

I am having the same issue! I don't understand how i GAIN weight when everyone else seems to lose weight. I am on humira and I don't eat horribly and I am active and exercise. I haven't had prednisone in over a year because I refuse it now. I just can't get the weight off and get it to stay off!

Hi,

It really depends on your medication. When I was first diagnosed I was put on prednisone. While it really put me back in remission it made me gain a lot of unwanted weight. I lost around at least 30 or so pounds the first few months I started having symptoms, only to gain it back completely and then some during the time I was taking the prednisone. I also got a extremely round face.
