Hello everyone!
My name is Hannah and I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and acid reflux in July 2014. I am currently on Lialda. I had symptoms for a couple years before I got my diagnosis. When my symptoms began I was roughly 130lbs. Roughly four years later I fluctuate between 105-110lbs. Being 5' 6" I am underweight. I am continuing to lose weight and I would like to make changes. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on gaining weight while maintaining a Crohn's friendly diet? Any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you,
Hannah

Hey so some really good ways to add calories is eating really good quality ice cream (think caravel or ben and jerrys) and make a shake using whole milk and if you can stand it a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter,
if you have trouble absorbing all the fat
try sipping on ensure or boost supplements during the day
the key is drinking them slowly so you can get more of the nutrients
also try drinking fruit juice instead of water as it has lots of calories- just make sure that its not freezing cold as it can irritate you
it its too hard to make the switch maybe start diluting the juice and slowly add less water
hope these tips help and good luck!!

My daughter also had difficulty gaining weight and we sought the help of a nutritionist. After a lot of trial and error, what seems to work best for her are smaller / more frequent meals. We also focused on the meal itself, enriching the food with good for you olive oil (even on well steamed veggies), gravies to meats and saved the drinks 'til after the food was eaten, this way you don't fill up too quickly. As her mom, I always keep fresh baked goods in the freezer. They are made with all natural ingredients, no additives/preservatives and are full of calories. We also used to make thick shakes, we found they tasted better than the pre-packed type you can buy in the store and again, you decide what goes in it! Safe snacks between meals helps too, this way you pretty much "graze" all day.
Good luck!
