Gluten Free?

Mon, April 04, 2016 5:22 PM

How many of you have gone gluten free? How long did you give it a try before giving up? I've heard that it takes at least 6 months for any changes to occur in regards to the intestinal lining being repaired. Did it help relieve symptoms?

personally have had great success with going gluten free. every time i came off of the disciplined gf diet- symptoms would return in a few days. using my body as a guinea pig helped prove that lol then came lactose free, processed sugar free and eliminating *** meats/eggs. everything else i eat has a purpose instead of just fulfilling a craving. herbal teas, probiotics, supplements, medical marijuana etc. if i stray off the path that is healing me that's my own problem now and back to the hospital i go. it's just accepting the lifestyle change. :)

Hi,
I dont follow on purpose a gluten free diet, but i have been thinking that can be extremely positive for Crohns dicease.
This is my case: I am Spanish, diagnosed aproximately 15 or 17 years ago (dont really remember). When diagnosed i was living in Spain, got several episodes, i would say standard evolution as Crohns patient.
Then i moved to Indonesia, and since them i have been feeling much better. Actually, no episodes that need steroids in the last 12 years (since i moved to Indonesia).
However, when i go back to Spain for some weeks, i usually start feeling worse. Therefore, i am quite sure that my diet in Spain is worse for Crohn than my diet in Indonesia.
So... What is different here?
1. In Spain i eat a lot of bread. In indonesia I eat very little bread. therefore no gluten free, but reduced a lot the gluten from bread
2. In Spain i eat quite often pasta. In Indonesia i rarely eat pasta, usually i eat rice. Again, no gluten free, but reduced a lot.
3. In Spain I drink tap water (which is great and safe...but maybe not for Crohn patients), in Indonesia i drink only botteled water
4. In Spain i eat a lot of pork, in Indonesia i almost dont eat pork, mostly chicken and some beef.

So, i think that reducing the gluten can be very good for Crohn. Migth not be necessary to stop eating glutn 100%.

I've gone G-free permanently!!!   That's how much better it has made me.  I would say within the first 7 days I started to feel a litttle more energetic and after a month my joints were also starting to feel better.  Good luck!
