Gosh, I always review the menu online before going, and try to find a "safe" choice or two. Go to's include fish or chicken (NOT fried), rice, relatively simple soups, and pasta (with non-creamy sauce like marinara). I always ask for a doggy-box immediately when they bring the food, and put half away for later. Most restaurant portions are way too big for one meal. I drink bottled water, no booze or fizzy stuff.
The list of Don't Eats is fairly long, and some chains have almost nothing but deep-fried, heavily-sauced items. But at a TGIF recently, I did well with potato skins; chips & salsa may be another safe option.
