I don't think the mouth sores are a reaction from the med. My daughter gets them and isn't on it. I've been told the disease can affect from the mouth to the anus and can attest it has in my both my daughter and my own case. We use milk of magnesium applied with a q-tip, seems to naturally dry the sore up. For the miserable deep ulcer in a hard to eat place, we use Kanker Kover. It is sold in most pharmacies and is a tiny disc that forms a gel protective coating over the sore to give some much needed relief.

The Rx magical mouthwash is expensive- even with insurance. My doc said it is the same as making it yourself with the Maalox and liquid benadryl and it works for my daughter as well as myself when I get them.

My Nurse Practitioner wrote the prescription years ago, and I have kept track of it and asked current providers to write the same rx when I needed it.
It will need to be filled at a compounding pharmacy.

My daughter gets them a lot. The magic wash they have me do is 1 part liquid benadryl and 1 part Maalox. Mix the two together and then I apply them directly to her sores with a Qtip several times a day until they heal. I used to get them a lot as a kid, as did my brother. I have CD and my brother has UC. So we are fairly certain is a sign of immune problems to come, but she is so young we don't want to start putting her through tests yet. She has no symptoms of anything else so far. The specialists we took her to said the sores are a sign of the body going into defensive mode to fight off a virus or infection.

Do you know where to get all the ingredients for this "magical" mouthwash?

Thank you all for your responses. What I noticed that has helped me is the mouthwash called ACT. It helps with the pain and within two days the ulcer is gone. I do the wash every four hours and keep the mouth wash longer than a minute but I really want to get to the bottom of why I keep getting these mouth ulcers.

I had mouth ulcers as a symptom of IBD long before I was on any medications.
I have a compounded prescription a nurse practitioner told me about many years ago. She calls it "magic mouthwash" 1:1:1 equal parts liquid benadryl, liquid lidocaine, and (sp) dexamethasone. it is a swish and spit.
it seemed to help heal and temporarily numb the pain... important when they were so bad I could not chew food.

Just a thought...
I have UC, but I get mouth ulcers from eating certain fruits or nuts. For me, it's an allergic reaction. Were you careful about introducing all your foods in the diet?
