meals to eat that are not too bland but that others can eat

Sat, December 03, 2011 7:25 PM

I have chrones and find it very hard to eat correctly. I love spicy things, pizza etc. I am from New Mexico where red and green chili is everywhere and I love it.  It is a little harsh on me.

I need to find something that I can eat that isn't too bland or boring, but that I can also make so that my husband doesn't get burned out on bland.

I use  a strict scd/LCHF type diet to keep uc under control and often use Madhur Jaffrey's Indian recipes. Most of her food is very easy to make and can be used on scd with little adaptation. I have no problems with the spices ( I sometimes reduce the chilli/cayenne a bit ). Some of the spices (certainly turmeric and ginger)  actually help. I replace the rice with green beans, cauliflower and sometimes a little dahl made using well soaked lentils. MJ has good suggestions  for adding spices to vegetables too and many of these go well with plain meat and poultry.

I also pour melted butter with chopped parsley, rosemary, garlic, lemon juice or basil over many vegetables.

Read about Paleo/ low carb, high fat/scd/gaps  diets.  They are the best for IBD and allow plenty of flavour.

You can just try and tone down the spices. If a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of peppers just add 1/4 cup. I have noticed that this works well for me.
