Joint Pain and Crohn's

Tue, July 30, 2019 8:17 PM

After adding prednisone 2 wks ago, I started getting extreme pain in my ankle. It was so foreign to me that I didnt realize it could be the crohns. Then I find out that Ive developed antibodies to the Humira I started in Dec. I cant walk when I wake up. My husband has to carry me. It gets better 2 hours into the day where I can hobble but then it locks up again if I sit too long (15 mins) or dont move. Is this the peripheral arthritis that can happen during flare? Urgent care doc gave me hydrocodone which my GI doc said not to take. They also took xrays which were fine. What else can I do? The pain is unbearable. Do I wake up every hour and move around?I was just diagnosed in Nov 2018 after the first colonoscopy showed a stricture in my small intestine. Now 7 mos later, another colonoscopy revealed that I still have stricture and am now enflamed in colon. Humira may have never worked... started imuran today and hopefully remicade next week. Any advice is appreciated.

It may help to see a podiatrist based on my experience.  They probably won't be able to cure the joint pain, but they can probably help you to reduce the joint pain until you can make your flare ups in remission if the joint pain is related to your Chron's.  My podiatrist helped my foot pain under control.

I notice before and at the time of flare up my neck arthritis gets 100% worse, my neck gets so stiff and cracks. Then I get loose stools right after that, then the loose stool causes anal abcess.  It's so terrible this disease.

Then comes the worrying about sepsis due to the newley formed perianal abcess, or upper GI abcess that is deeper in the rectum/colon.  It's horrible when the abcesses form. It means I have fistula.

But to answer your question,  YES... joint pain is a part of it. Not everyone experiences it, but it is common.  Every time I get a flare up my neck arthritis gets worse.
