Frustrated with diarrhea and painful spasms

Fri, September 06, 2019 6:54 PM

Dx with UC 7/19. First tried mesalamine, but symptoms so bad I went to Urgent Care x2. Second time I was dehydrated. After fluids, was Rx prednisone....August was a good month!
After prednisone ended (4weeks), back on mesalamine and diarrhea, severe pain and cramps, etc back with a vengeance. Follow/up scheduled 9/12.
Do any of you have recommendations for:
*meds or treatment to control pain?
*how to somehow eat better? I’m barely eating due to         urgent and incontinent diarrhea ..,,at work so horribly embarrassing.

Thank you got any advice or help. I’m pretty desperate.

It seemed to help with the pain just make sure you do not take any pain meds it will make it worse.

Hey there! I was diagnosed with UC last April so I know how you are feeling I lost so much weight because of the diharrea and im only 5'3 125 pounds and 27 years old it was very scary for a while. I ate nothing but chicken no salt no pepper or seasonings no veggie or carb such as rice. It seemed to help with the pain just make sure you do not take any pain meds it will make it worse. I know chicken will be boring after a while but it helped with the cramps and diarrhea.

My department at the high school where I worked was undergoing classroom changes, anyway. So I asked my principal for a classroom right beside a restroom (and I told her why).  She made sure that happened for me, and I was able to handle my last several years of teaching much better—knowing that a restroom was only steps away.  Even so, I missed 17 days of school my last  year and probably should have stayed home that many more.  Often, I would just swallow 4 Imodium tablets, finish with a swig of Pepto Bismol, and head to work.  That last year was a hard one.

I'm in the same boat feel your pain . I'm on angivita injections and budesmine . I just keep being told by docs to take my meds and not worry about my diet . I'm convinced it is my diet it's a struggle to eat amd even drink water as that seems to set me off before and during eating witch is a nightmare at work like you say . Hope you find a solution as I need one too :)
