Hi,
My son who is 13 has Proctitis. He has been using Canasas for the past year. It seems effective. However once he stop using it the symptoms return. He would have bloody stool. What is everyone's expereience in managing and treating this disease.
Thank You

Hi there
Thank you for your reply. We had done a colonoscopy last year and the doctor did confirmed it was proctitis. There is some inflamation right at the tip of the rectum. We tried different dietary options but it is very hard to follow for a 13 year old. We have tried Kefir and it didn't help much. The Canasas is the best option so far.

Hey there, it must be hard taking care of a little one with this. I have it (Crohns/ rectum) and its been tough. Just hoping my kids dont get it as well.
Its a good thing Canasa is helping. It is really one of the safest options out there so don't worry too much about it. What I have learned is that you need to keep this in check before it develops more, especially in a young one. You mentioned proctitis, have you had it checked to see if it is UC or Crohns? That may make a difference in long term treatment options so you really need to go to an IBD specialits if it is either of the 2. DO NOT stay with a general Gastro, you need a pediatric specialist. I had proctitis and it developed and got severe pretty quickly and my original gastro misdiagnosed it and SWORE that I didnt have IBD. Thank goodness I went to a specialist and they properly diagnosed me. You may also want to look into dietary options. There is a lot of good stuff happening with kids and the SCD diet: https://www.nimbal.org/education/the-specific-carbohydrate-diet-
Good luck and I hope your kiddo feels better soon!
