Crohns & Metformin

Sun, April 27, 2025 5:48 PM

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle taking Metformin & Rybelsus for type 2 diabetes & Stelara for the Crohns. I don't know if my symptoms are from one or the other.

It can be challenging to manage multiple medications, especially with conditions like diabetes and Crohn's disease. It's important to communicate with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, as they can help determine if one medication is affecting you more than the wheelie life others. Keeping a journal of your symptoms and when they occur might also help your doctor find the right balance. Take care!

Your symptoms could definitely be coming from your Metformin. It's ok to use with Crohn's and supposedly after initial usage of Metformin, the side affects are supposed to subside and thus not make Crohn's worse. But My dr said that metformin was the cause of my Crohn's having even worse side effects than normal(nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and diarrhea) & it was exacerbating my chrohns. so for my type 2 diabetes, my dr prescribed me Jardiance. It was made for kidney disease but also used for type 2 diabetics. It works by helping the kidneys remove excess sugar and sodium from the blood through the urine. Research shows that metformin is fine for people with Crohn's but the initial stage of taking it and the body getting used to created side effects that were too much for my body to handle with my Crohn's being so bad. I hope this isn't the case for you but it's something to look into if metformin is causing you the side effects that it did for me and affecting my crohns. Id think the only way you're going to know what is causing you those side effects would be a process of elimination by changing your meds for your diabetes like I did. If that doesn't work then it's probably not the metformin that's your issue. You should talk to your and see what they think.
