Harrassment on the Workplace?

Mon, September 02, 2013 12:55 PM

Hello Everyone!  I live with ulcerative colitis and am blessed to have been able to stay healthy enough to build a successful career as a scientist.  For the past two years, I have been in remission, having taken only 175 mg azathioprine however, my colitis has recently flared and I am currently taking prednisone, lialda, and 200 mg azathioprine per my GI.  The only day that I missed work was to visit with my doctor, as his office is out of town (I kept the same GI when I relocated because immunosupressive therapy is serious and I trust my doctor to be thorough).  I am well under my allowed number of sick days but in all honesty am completely fine to work every day.  I am a bodybuilder and although I have had to modify my workouts, I have been able to continue to do those as well.

Hi bbjonsen37,
Keep track of what communications there are.  Put everything in writing.  That is cause for a lawsuit.  But in order to alleviate all of that, you can find better health with proper diet and nutrition.  Drop me an email and I can explain further.  My email is jamenta3@gmail.com.  I suffered for 23 years till finally getting and staying healthy.

Cont'd .My problem, believe it or not, is with my manager.  One day, after a six-month checkup that I had while I was in remission she asked me what it was that I had that required me to drive out of town to a specialist- having at first admitted that she was aware of the professional inappropriate-ness of the question.  I answered her, and told her that I had colitis and that the checkups were to ensure that the Imuran wasn't making me sick.  Since my flare and recent doctor's visit my boss has been uncomfortably inquisitive about my health, even suggesting that I 'not be afraid to go on disability' if necessary.  I have neither said nor implied ANYTHING that would indicate needing or wanting to take leave. I love my job, I think I am good at it and it does something for me, mentally, to be able to work and be productive in spite of this disease.  With that being said, my boss has posted a job description on our company website identical to mine even though we are at capacity AND has promoted a co worker-her friend, with no formal education/chemical background- to the same title as mine and asked me to train her in the even that I am out. I cannot help but feel that this is preemptive attempt at insulating them (the company I work for) from what could happen if my colitis were to get out of control, even if it threatens my job.   I have always prided myself in being honest about my disease but feel as if it hurt me this time and I question the ethics of management.  I am inclined to involve HR, but I know that its the point of no return and would mean added stress that I don't need.  Has anyone else out there dealt with this?  On a side note I would just like to say that I am thankful for this forum and want to send love and encouragement to everyone fighting this disease. Stay positive, never give up and it will bet better.
