I have been suffering a year long bout with very low blood counts. (4.2 - 6.9). I have had a bone marrow test done, am currently seeing a hematologist and a G.I. doctor. They can't come up with a reason my blood count should be low. I have been getting units of blood every month and it isn't helping. I have had Crohn's for 30 + years. I was put on Humira about 5 months ago. I don't feel that the drug is helping. Does anyone else have blood count issues as severe as this?

If u mean hemoglobin than yes, I have had to have iron infusions in the past. It was like once a week for ..I don't really remember maybe 10 weeks. I haven't needed them for awhile. But I never needed a blood transfusion or anything like that. Good luck.
When you say low blood count, I am assuming that you are talking about your Hemoglobin (Hg). Mine hasn't been as low as yours, but when it gets low, I have to have intervenous iron infusions from my hematologist to replace the Hg and the Ferritin. A nurse told me once that since I have Crohn's in my small intestine, my small intestine doesn't absorb iron into my system from the foods I eat. I do very well with the iron infusions, but ANY blood loss I have, whether it be from my Crohn's, a surgery, etc, will deplete my iron reserves. Ask your doctor if they can just give you iron rather than units of blood......I am pretty sure that my situation will be one that will be chronic and that I will need to be aware of it to maintain my health. Hope you get it figured out!
