Kinda depressed

Tue, February 03, 2015 8:20 AM

Hi everyone. I had a blockage & strictures that wouldnt open after being in the hospital for a week & I had surgery. They took out 11 inches of my small intestine & my appendix. I didnt even really have time to think about the surgery that much until after. Its been 2 weeks today since I had the surgery & Im out of school for awhile. I am starting to feel a lot better but I am in the WORST mood. I keep arguing with my mom then I feel really bad about it but its like I cant stop. I love her & shes a good mom. Im missing out on the historic snow we have had, we got 40 inches in a week & I wanna be able to go out in it & tell my kids about it one day. Yesterday my sister & friends went to the park to go sledding. They walked there even though it was freezing & I said I was going & my mom wouldnt let me & it was a huge argument & I pretty much cried all night. I mean I know I cant go sledding rn but Idk, I still wanted to lol I mean watching the Super Bowl hurt my stomach bc I kept getting excited lol So anyway I just wanna be a normal person who isnt so emotional. Thats all. Also I get my school work done in like 2 hours everyday & I have been so bored.

Hey! I feel you girl.. My name is Carly, I'm 14, and I was diagnosed in November with Crohn's and it SUCKS. I'm still on Prednisone :( and that comes with the oh-so-desirable "chipmunk cheeks" and wicked bad depression. I keep lashing out ay my mom too.. Today I yelled at her for not buying me any clothes that fit because I gained a lot of weight! I hate always being angry at her because I love her but I don't know what to do anymore! Are you feeling the same way??

Hey there -        listen, you will have plenty to tell your kids one day, no worries.  As far as feeling depressed / down, it's normal to feel like that.  Unfortunately Moms are used to squabbles with their kids, it's part of growing up parent - child relationship. As long as you make it right in the end, I'm sure your mom will understand.

It is hard being home from school on medical, but try your best to keep yourself occupied, try something new that doesn't necessarily have to be physical but different and achievable.  Does your Mom know how to knit/crochet? maybe learn. Also a great time to tinker w/an instrument, art, write some music, whatever.  When my daughter had been home I'd have her pull new recipes for the week and we'd go grocery shopping and get creative in the kitchen.

Hang in there, stay connected with your friends and this rough patch will pass.  Good luck to you, you'll be making snow angels before you know it!
