I have been diagnosed with UC. I am a runner who likes to race. Almost every race I have to stop to use the bathroom several times. I wear a menstrual pad during my races to keep my underwater clean. I also bring wet wipes and A &D ointment. I just ran a marathon and had to visit the port o potty 6 times which added about 20 minutes to my overall time. I usually don't have a lot of pain, just leakage (diarrhea with blood). I am looking for some tips or tricks to keep me from needing bathroom stops during my races. Not racing is not an option. Any help is much appreciated!!!

I used be a triathlete before I started grad school and started having UC flares. Here are some suggestions I came up with.
Try carb loading early morning the day prior and do minimal work that day to reduce the amount of stored carb use.
The day of take 2 imodium and some smithecone. That will reduce your need to go and bloating.
For in-run nutrition, try to take highly concentrated carbs to reduce the amount of space displaced in your GI tract. I'm thinking those GUs would be much better than say a Clif bar.
And definitely hydrate and electrolyte yourself!
