What do you wear when you have a flare

Tue, April 21, 2015 7:02 PM

I currently have 2 different styles of jeans that are comfortable for me to wear while I am having a flare.  The HR department of my company would like me  to wear something more "business casual" .  I have an employee accommodation letter from my doctor stating I can wear jeans but my company insists I where something other that denim.  What do you wear?

The ADA told me to pound sand. They just said I was lying. The letter said [they] "didn't find my testimony to be credible".

I don't know how to work things out with your HR people. I've actually been let go from 2 jobs now - they come up with some other excuse. But I will advise you to stash extra pairs of underwear everywhere. I just went through a really bad episode of not being able to get to the bathroom in time. Nice life, huh?

I found some jeans that come in colors (black, gray and burgundy) that have elastic waists that don't really look that much like an elastic waist. I got them on QVC. Just go there and search for Denim & Co. stretch jeans. They come in petite, regular and tall. I have 2 pairs and LOVE them and just ordered a third pair.

People with Crohn's are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you have a letter from your doctor stating you need to wear jeans during your flareup, your employer has to accomodate you.  That's the law.

I have found some khaki pants from LLBean that have a hidden elastic piece in the waist so they are not tight at all and are very comfortable. (Plus, you are the only one that knows there is elastic in them...it's that hidden).  I find on days when my flares are really hurting though, I wear dresses that have no waist. I'm happy those are in style now!

I haven't worn jeans in 6 months because they're too uncomfortable. Being a woman I found that leggings or dresses were way easier on my belly and they look a lot nicer than the sweat pants I wear around the house. I also managed to find a pair of dress pants that were stretchy enough in the waist that they don't bother me. would something like that help you?

How about loose Khakis? I have to wear for my Volunteer job, and they feel pretty nice if you get them on the loose side.
I am young so I don't know if that is proper dress code, but if it is try it out!
