Living with Setons

Sun, May 10, 2015 8:59 PM

I have recently had surgery to place a seton for a fistula.  Hopefully they are temporary, but my surgeon says I will have them until at least the end of the summer.  The fistula is still draining, so I am curious as to what other men use to keep the drainage from soaking through to their clothes....guaze pads or something else?  And also, what's the best way to keep them in place.

Johnson and Johnson makes amazing thick gauze. I stick one in between my cheeks and go about my day. I change it regularly everytime I use the bathroom. They are very thick so I cute them in half too. I find that it drains and keeps infection and grossness away. They are a little pricy but worth every penny!

I had a colon resection in 1992 and have a fistula, so i have the same problem. I have found that a women's thin pad will work just fine. It stays in place and it works very well. You can try different ones until you find one that works and feels well to you.
