Trouble with pain and 2 month ongoing flare.

Thu, June 25, 2015 3:09 PM

Kind of long, and thank you for anyone who reads the whole post.\
May 5th, 2015, I leave work early and go to the emergency room with severe pain, not only my abdomen, but my lower back too, which is new to me with a flare.  I get admitted, they put me on IV steroids, test me for c-diff, etc, etc, etc, do a CAT scar, and a cololoscopy through my stoma to find a pretty severe flare going on.  After feeling better from the IV steroids, I get sent home, and of course for a couple of days I feel ok.  When the IV steroids wear off, back down hill.
One month later, pain is getting worse, back to the ER, more IV steroids, and pain meds.  Out again, because on the IV steroids, I get better, and after a coupld of days, back to feeling awful, in excruciating pain if I eat or drink  something.

In this whole process, my GI does NOT prescribe pain medicine, I can't get in to see my PCP for about a month, and my gastro surgeon tells me Humira will be the solution to my pain.  Which is still about a week from getting.  Insurance red tape!

I do not know what to do, or where to go, I do not want to go back into the ER again, for what I refer to as a "band-aid".

Anyone have any suggestions?

I feel like a junky, and all I am is a 37 year old mom with a 4 year old daughter who doesn't understand why her mom hurts all the time.

Sorry about the late response... I've been out of touch lately. Did you get ahold of humira yet? It takes awhile to kick in. I'm surprised the prendisone isn't helping at all...it works miracles for me even if it is just masking everything. but i do have friends that dont respond to it. ginger tea is also really good. personally i hate the taste but, whatever helps. i also swear by accupuncture. i hope you find something that works soon.

60 mg Prednisone daily. and Omeprazole, even though he says my tummy troubles have nothing to do with my Crohn's. Humira is in the works, should get my first dose next week thankfully. Also seeing my PCP very soon to explore more options, she's been with me through a lot of this, and I trust her whole heartedly.

I'm so sorry to hear that! they wont put you on oral steroids or pain killers for the time being? that doesn't make any sense to me. You might want to ask the GI if he has a trial of the humira. I know mine has extra in her office. The only other sugesstion I have is bubble baths and sleep. I wish I had more to offer. Best of luck.
