NSAID

Mon, June 30, 2008 12:00 AM

I HAVE COLITIS AND WAS TOLD BY MY GI DOCTOR NOT TO TAKE NSAID (IBUPROFEN, ADVIL, ETC.) ONLY TYLENOL? I AM ON COLAZAL.

WHAT  DO PEOPLE WITH COLITIS DO TO REDUCE INFLAMATION, SAY WITH A STRAINED MUSCLE OR LOWER BACK PAIN? TYLENOL WILL NOT REDUCE INFLAMATION. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

The reason you can't take the NSAIDs (in case they didn't explain) is because it can cause intestinal bleeding and damage. And for people with IBD, who already have damage and are prone to intestinal bleeding, it can be even more dangerous. Just wanted to tell you, in case they didn't explain why!

Good timing - I actually think I pulled a muscle in my abdomen. My sister is a massage therapist so I called her to make sure it wasn't serious. However, my GI has told me the same thing. She said to take tylenol to ease any pain, however I felt sick after the first few times of taking tylenol. I have been a fan of excedrin for years and I find that taking only one pill of that or tylenol does ok and doesn't upset my stomach. I have yet to try ibuprofen, however after tonight I may want to just to see how I re-act. Sorry, that's all I have found.
