Although I do not have an affliction, my husband does...he was diagnosed in 2001. I would like to go back to where I think this all started. 29 years ago my husband had bad allergies and developed Iritis. For years he got flare ups in both eyes. In Sept. 2000 he was hospitalized with Meningitis and had 3 major brain surgeries that kept him there for 18 days. The bacteria ate through the sinus bone in his forehead and that is how the infection got to his brain. After such trauma and many days in the hospital he wasn't able to smoke, which in turn, 6 months later discovered he had Ulcerative Colitis. He was on Asacol & bouts of prednisone to start and we tried probiotics with this but no relief. He now takes 200mg. Imuran and prednisone when he has flare ups (approx. twice a year) and this keeps him under control. We have discovered that it is some how allergy related do to his flare ups are in the Fall and Spring time.
His moods when he is flared up is almost too much to bare but am trying my best to be sympathetic. We are going through very trying times right now and spend most of my time in tears. I love him more then he will ever know but am at wits end on how to make it through tomorrow. I have tried to research everything I possibly can on this illness and know how frustrating it can be. I am looking for any response you can give me that will help me to figure out how best to handle these flare ups. My prayers are for my husband to be healed of this illness and for all you that suffer through everyday of living with this. I hope one day they will find a cure for all you that suffer.
