Disability

Has anyone ever used Social Security disability? I'm a teacher and my Crohn's symptoms are making it really difficult to do my job. What's the process like? How much support do you get (monetarily)? How long does it last? Is it easy to stop and start working again when you're feeling better? Thanks! Any advice is helpful! -Brad

Hello Brad,

I myself am In the process of trying to get social security disability.  I was diagnosed with Crohn's 30 years ago, but not until 2012 did it really start to bother me.  I applied for SSDI in June 2015 and I am still waiting to be seen my an administrative law judge to adjudicate my case. My understanding is if you win your case unless you inform Social Security that you are feeling better, the disability you receive is permanent and you cannot work while you are on SSDI.
