Not Fitting In

Wed, June 07, 2017 8:53 PM

I feel like I don't fit in. I was diagnosed three years ago, and since then have yet to find someone who has the same symptoms, and I feel like I don't belong and I don't even fit in to the communities of people with IBD. I don't have any issues going to the bathroom, or any with diarrhea at all. Instead, I would get fevers and throw everything up, and was diagnosed with upper crohn's disease only through an endoscopy since the colonoscopy showed nothing. I also have severe depression and anxiety, and just never feel like I belong anywhere. I'm  just so confused and wonder if anyone else has a similar experience.

Like the person before me said it's really not a one size fits all disease. Everyone has different symptoms and reacts to treatment differently. I know personally I don't have anyone close to me that knows what I'm going through. I'm 24 and recently diagnosed with Crohn's. Depending on my flare and environmental factors will determine what symptoms I have. I have a lot of bad days too. I've been sick and in pain more often than not in my only 24 years. I too get depressed at just the thought of this disease. I get anxious every time I inject myself with humira. I'm scared to eat for not knowing how my body will react today. From reading everyone's stories it has helped me realize I'm not alone in this. Whether our situations are the same or totally different. We're all fighting a daily battle. I hope you find some comfort in knowing others do care and know what you're going through. That's what I've been trying to do. And trying to not focus solely on this disease. It dictates our life as much as we allow it to. Take care.

Part of IBD is that no one has the same symptoms... Some are more common than others (i.e. diarrhea) but that doesn't mean it's exclusive. I vomit a lot when I have a flare... sometimes from my meds, sometimes from the disease itself. I have Crohn's in my illeum (well I guess that was taken out...) now my colon, as well as my duodenum which is up near the top. It can happen anywhere and the disease can also move. You're not alone.
