Diagnosed and sacked!

Thu, June 08, 2017 3:27 PM

June is apparently a shit month for me. As not only have I just been diagnosed with Crohn's... but also been made redundant from the job that I love.... brilliant laugh

I haven't had a 'proper' job interview for about 5 years now, as I have worked my way up in my company so always interviewed with people I know....(it's not what you know)

I'm happy to interview, that's not my problem. My problem is  at what point do you tell a potential employer that you have a chronic illness that will probably mean taking time off for appointments, check ups, time off for surgery (hopefully not) and that they should excuse me if I run off mid conversation but my bowels could explode at any given moment.

I really want to get back into work straight away, and haven't taken a day sick due to my symptoms as my current workplace (who are unaware of the condition anyway) allow me to work from home when I choose. I don't want to put an employer off by telling them, but all the same don't want to get sacked in my first week for having 2 doctors appointments, going in late because I couldn't get out of bed and spending a day on the loo. (Ofcourse, all of this has come during relapse period!)

Has anyone been in a similar position? Looking for work whilst battling with your bowel? I've googled and it's throwing up the equality act to me, but it's not quite the answer I'm looking for. Fine they can't not employ me but it might tarnish their opinion of my capability??

Ideas? Suggestions? ... jobs?
