Work and doctor appointments

Tue, August 28, 2018 12:43 PM

Hi everyone, I’m new to this group. I was diagnosed with UC in 2013 as a college freshman, and luckily my university was incredibly accommodating. Now that I’m in the workforce, I find corporate America is not nearly as accommodating. I’ve already used all my sick days for the year, and I also go to the doctor what seems to be 100x more than my coworkers. Even after disclosing my condition, in an effort to seek mutual understanding with my boss, I find that there is very little to no sympathy or understanding. I try to explain that I wish I didn’t have a condition that kept me from work sometimes, or that I didn’t have to go to the doctor as much as I do, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Desperately seeking help/tips/advice just to see how others deal with this. Thank you!!

That sounds super rough, I am sorry to hear your work is not so understanding. My job has been super understanding but then again I have been kind of in remission for the past month or so. What medications are you on?? I know it sounds kind of childish but (and idk what kind of work you do) but my old job at the restaurant i had to get a doctors note explaining the situation, so maybe that will help?? I mean they may still give you a hard time but at least you tried and covered that base. How long are your work days? Is it possible to wait to eat? I know when i am having a flare up i go right after i eat. My UC is on the moderate side so idk if yours is on the severe it could be different. I will say in the morning i give myself time to get up eat and wait to see what’ll happen and then go to work...sorry i know this might not be as helpful but hopefully you’ll get something out of it! Good luck let me know how things go!!
