Nothing Has Changed in 10 Years....Help?

Thu, August 07, 2008 10:45 PM

Hi All.  This is my first post.  It usually takes me a LONG time to admit that I need help.  I have IBD and have for the past 10 year, since I was 12.  Honestly, nothing has seemed to change that much except my meds.  Recently I graduated college and moved in NYC.  Things are looking up, by my disease is kicking in and really holding me back.  It makes me tired, takes away my motivation, makes me depressed and of course, gives me bad cramps and other "stuff."  Not only do I need to find a good doctor here, but I need to take on a lifestyle that will change things enough so that I can lead a normal life.  I stay away from bad foods, etc.  It still doesn't change things.  I go to doctors, get the tests done, tweak the meds, then nothing changes.  I'm not looking to be "cured" of course.  But this is getting to be a bit hopeless.  Advice?  Anything?  A good NYC doctor that won't give me the usual rundown then send me out the door?

Best,
Sarah

Sarah I am so sorry to hear you are struggling after such a long time.  You didn't mention where you live, or what meds you are on.  My daughter is 15 and has been on Remicade for 2 years every 7 weeks now and she does very well, Please dont' be afraid to search out another doctor if you aren't happy, look and see if your health insurance has a website where you can look for doctors some times they do and even offer good information about them then when you find one you might be interested in GOOGLE their name and see if anything comes up.  Also ask about Remicade and if that is an option for you, I know I have read many success stories on this website with that med, sometimes it feels like it could be considered a miracle drug.

Take Care and please don't give up
