Finding a job?

Mon, April 15, 2019 1:11 PM

I have had Crohns for over 17years and have gone through ups and downs with my disease. I have been home with my kids but now that my youngest is starting school in the fall I need to find a job. Unfortunately i am still going through a pretty bad remission and most jobs I wouldn’t be able to do because of frequency and stomach pains. What job do you do? Does anyone have any advice on part time jobs that may be easier for active Crohns patient?

I would suggest finding any work-from-home type of jobs. You can try looking into online teaching like the one user mentioned earlier, reviewing college students essay papers or being an online tutor for some kind of subject, becoming an Amazon or eBay dropshipper, or like me getting into day trading stocks. You can go on YouTube and search the user KingHuman and he has tons of videos on ideas on how to generate income without working a typical day job. Not all ideas can work for you and not all can seem easy to do, especially if you are not computer savvy. But you may end up finding something you can do and that's the highlight of the moment. I gave up a decent engineering job and haven't worked since April of this year. I've been living off of whatever savings I had, plus now I live off of a fixed income. I just graduated from University last year and was looking forward on beginning an independent life. Though I bear no children, I do have financial obligations to meet and generating income is important to me. The only downfall to being employed VS unemployed is that unemployed county health insurance usually pays for almost all of my medical procedures including ablulatory services if needed, where as insurance through an employer usually requires high deductibles for just about everything including prescription. So my goal is to find something I can do in which my income isn't in the form of a paycheck or a dividend or a capital gain, so I can retain my unemployed health coverage for as long as I can while I have this illness. As of now I buy and resell high end shoes online but that side hustle isn't a consistent cash flow. Hopefully if I can master the day trading and start a real trading account I can grow fast enough within a year that it will equal to double what I was making at my last job to help cover me in case I loose my health coverage one day. There are also those multi-level network marketing businesses like AmWay or USANA where you can sign up a ton of people under you to generate sales commissions that you collect a small percentage of, but to me those businesses are like a pyramid scheme.

It's been quite a challange for me,

I work as a petro mechanic, so im outside away from bathrooms about 12 hours a day, and thats not fun when you have crohn's.

My tips to you are this,

I was open with my employer about my condition, I let them know my productivity wouldn't be affected.

I kept up with my medicines, stayed away from Soda's and caffeine type drinks, (looking at you coffee)

Would always "go" before leaving for work.

Only eat foods i am sure won't cause me to have any issues (usally something bready)

and stay hydrated. (drinking plenty of water's/teas)

It's not fun, and not easy. But I have to provide for my daughter, so i do it.

After awhile you will get used to it, and you body will....somewhat adjust to your schdule.

Good luck!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I am still unable to perform my job as a classroom teacher, due to Chron's disease. I was very, very lucky to find an online teaching job that  I can do and I do make good money at. I teach online for a Chinese company VIPKid. No matter how ill I feel, I can usually get to my computer and teach my classes. I do run to the bathroom in my five minute break between classes. This works while teaching from home, but, it did not work in the traditional classroom. I make $25 USD an hour and work only in the mornings. If you are interested in my job, I can help you (or anyone else interested) apply. Please DM me or google "Work at VIPKid" and use my Referral Code (JACQU0085) when you apply. Hope you feel better soon, crohn's is a terrible disease!

Remission is when the disease goes away.  That should be a good thing I would think.  As far as jobs, I think pretty much anything where you have easy access to a bathroom would do.
