Ringing in the ears (Tinnitus)

Sun, October 05, 2008 3:37 PM

I am currently in remission for UC taking Imuran (generic) and Lialda.  Over about the last year I have noticed kind of a constant white noise or ringing in my ears.  Dosent bother me most of the time except when it is very quiet and I notice it.  Has anyone else out there had this issue.  Side effects for both drugs list it but mostly for overdoses.

I'm also on Imuran-generic and Lialda.  I've had ringing in my ears for so long I don't remember when it started.  I think it may have started when I was on Sulfasalazine before switching to Lialda and maybe before I started taking the Azothioprene (Imuran).  I always attributed it to not getting enough sleep but now I'm wondering if it is the medicine after all of the replies you got.

Good luck to you.

Wow; I have bad ringing in one ear and attributed it to playing drums in a band. Maybe it was the Remicade. Who knows? I would never have thought about it being from meds. My husband lost his sense of balance due to a different combination of antibiotics he had to take for a heart infection. I assume that affected something in his inner ear too.

I am in remission and not on any Crohns meds for a couple years now.  I also recently have had ringing in the ears, mostly when I am lying down.  I am over 50 so I have attributed it to a start of hearing loss, not Crohns.  Who knows?

I am currently in remission from Crohn's, following a successful bowel resection about 4 yrs ago.  Prior to that, I was on Remicade for about 2 yrs, along with Asacol.  I had tinnitus for most of that time but it subsided a few months after I went off the Remicade.  I never had tinnitus while on Asacol alone, so I sincerely believe it was due to the Remicade, even thought my doctor kept saying it wasn't likely.  Everyone is different and reacts differently to meds, so listen to your body and what your gut (literally) is telling you and make sure to get your doctor to listen to you.  It took me many years to realize that I knew myself better than my doctors did.  Good luck.

I also have a constant ringing in my ears.  I'm on Imuran-generic  plus Azacol and have been in remission for about two weeks now.  I didn't notice the tinnitus while flaring.  It's best to try and not think about it as that seems to make it louder.  I put a fan in my bedroom so that the white noise of the fan drowns out the ringing in my ears. Like Roseanne Rosanadanna said "It's always something".
