UC/ Exercise/ Bleeding

Wed, October 22, 2008 9:42 PM

For the second time in 2 years I am trying to get into an exercise routine of cardio and resistance training.  Last time I quit because I had a very strong flare.  I was not convinced it had anything to do with the work out but afterwards things like yard work would seem to make things worse.  I've been in pretty good health lately so decided to try again and am starting to have a little pain and bleeding.  I've had UC for 25 years and was able to do things like resistance training, raquetball and 100 mile bike rides without this kind of reaction.  Wondering if anyone else has similar symptoms.

Steve, I don't have the bleeding that you have been expirencing, What happens to me when i try to workout is that feeling that i need to hit the bathroom at every turn, or twist.  Plus all the growling, and noise going on in my stomach.  I had to give up doing any crunches, or sit ups because any such movements would cause my body to respond very quickly. I still workout which I enjoy, but I just try to do things a bit more gently.  Good luck bud.

I had the same type of thing happen where i would leave the gym feeling good but sit in my car and i could feel my insides start to burn and i would double over in pain and i knew i was in for a long day of feeling crappy.  My Dr told me to go slow and nothing too high impact - which made me cranky because then an hr workout turned into a 2 hr workout because i feel like i am not doing anything at a medium pace... BUT i have not had pain from the gym in over a month so i guess it worked UGH i would love to be like the others in the gym who can run in work out HARD for 45 minutes and go home hahahaha

Good Luck with getting back into it!!
