living on remicade and wanting to lose weight

Sun, January 04, 2009 6:58 PM

HI. I am 41 years old and am getting healthier everyday, thanks to remicade treatments. I was on a roller coaster of treatments and failures for about 3 years. I went through MANY trials before being diagnosed for 2 years previous to that. So for 5 years I was skinny and absolutely miserable. Now, after a year of healing and my body actually absorbing my food, I am heading the opposite direction. I am looking for a healthy diet to try that doesn't involve living on vegetables only. I include them in my daily eating, but too many cause me discomfort. The same goes with fiber products. I realize that exercise is a major key in this, but am looking for any advice that you might have for me........

I have struggled with this, having lost around 50lbs, gained 80lbs and then lost 60lbs, lost 10, gained 30lbs and finally lost 20lbs.  My problems were focused around Prednisone.  Are you just taking Remicade?  You may find that you have little control over you weight.  The medications can make you retain fluid or pack on the pounds.  You also may be gaining weight simply because you feel better and have an appetite again.  Weight watchers sounds like a fine choice.  I would recommend staying away from ruffage and tough meats.  A diet rich in fish, seafood, chicken with plenty of vegetables, rice, pasta and breads would probably be the best.

Good luck.

I do Weight Watchers.  I think it is one of the healthiest programs for weight loss.  I definitely recommend it.  Good luck!
