Lost my doctor/just venting

Fri, January 30, 2009 1:00 AM

Yesterday I found out that my gastroenterologist is going into private practice after working for the state/fed funded clinic I have been going to since last September.  He was the only gastro. in the clinic's system so now there will be no one to treat me with my UC (actually pancolitis). I am struggling financially, so I had to start using this clinic as the office visits are $7 rather than the $120 visits I was paying.

I had a really bad flare last summer which required a blood transfusion, was pretty much bedridden for 2 1/2 months. I am on Azathioprine and require blood draws every other month. The lab will send my test results to the GP who treats WAY too many people every day and I'm afraid that I will just slip between the cracks.  I think I will have the lab send the results to my home also, so that I can monitor my white blood cell count. At a loss now on how I can safely take the Azathioprine and Asacol....kind of scary too.

katiepaw,

I am just sorry about this!  Like you need the stress.  It sounds like you have a plan to be vigilant about your health.  Have you met the GP?  Maybe that Dr. or a nurse in the system will be able to get you to the care you need (yeah, i like my little dream world, I know!).  I can't fix your problem, I just can sympathize and send a prayer out for you that your path will go a bit smoother than it is right now!
