I was wondering if anyone knows what the "maintenance levels" of these two drugs are. I am currently on 150mg Azathioprine and 4800mg Asacol per day for UC. I have to be my own health advocate right now and adjust my meds myself for the time being.

Yes, Azathioprine is based on weight. I am a small person, and I take 100 mg. If you go into WebMD site on your computer, and look up the medicine, I believe it gives the formula for determining dosage.

I don't have a gastroenterologist right now, the one I had went into private practice and I am with a clinic that offers office visits and meds on a sliding scale according to your income. I recently started to have a flare and went back on what my full dose of Asacol and Azathioprine were before the flare and it's starting to calm down again. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the most typical dose is of these two drugs when not flaring. Thanks for your input though.

p.s. I wouldn't adjust the meds unless talking to the doc first.

My daughter who has UC is on 4 tablets of Lialda and 3 1/2 (175mg) of Azathioprine plus one Women's One a Day and one probiotic (Ultimate Flora Critical Care 50 Billion) per day. Her last doctor (she is on her 4th), a pediatric specialist, told her that Azathioprine is based on her weight. I don't know how Lialda or Asacol is based. You are right though to be your own advocate. How are you feeling?
