I have recently started experiencing pain, stiffness, and swolleness in my hands and fingers. Nothing seems to help(Aleve, Tylonol) except Vicodin which my GI doesn't want me to take. I've also tried the Glucosamine and Condroitin with no results. Any one got any ideas? It's getting so I can't hold my tools at work, and I work with my hands

You definitely need to tell your GI doc and hopefull they'll send you to a rheumatologist. Not only could you have crohns arthritis you may have lupus or another autoimmune disease that causes joint pain and swelling. Thats what happened to me.

My gastro gives me darvocet, it is stronger than Tylenol but is in the Tylenol family, after that Vicodin would be stronger yet.

I started to notice some pain in the joins of my hands a little less than a year ago and started to take omega 3/fish oil supplements. I noticed a difference fairly quickly and only occasionally feel mild pain now, usually if its cold.

Joint pain and stiffness are common with this disease. Lay off the NSAIDS except for Tylenol. Not good for the stomach especially with this disease. I find that I fumble at times too with my hands. The cold makes it worse. I don't take anything for it. I just deal with it. Actually it is the first indicator for me that I am about to have a flare-up. I will wake up in the night with excruciating hip/elbow/hand joint pain where I can barely move. A week later flare-up in full force. A systemic flammatory response I guess. I stretch and do Yoga it helps.

have you seen a rheumatologist at all? ibd can cause arthritis so its probably worth getting your hands looked at to see whats going on. i have arthritis and my rheumatologist prescribed me celebrex which is an nsaid like asprin but its less *** your digestive tract. the dr also put me on methotrexate which has helped to reduce the swelling and stiffness a lot.

Oh, and you might also want to try acupuncture. That might help, but you would probably have to do it weekly.

There is an anti-inflammatory medicine which doesn't aggravate the digestive system much, called Disalcid (Salsalate). Perhaps that might help. I take it for knee pain. Ask your physician. It is a prescription medicine. It doesn't cause heartburn or ulceration or bleeding.
