Leaking Problem

Thu, March 19, 2009 5:53 AM

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has the same problem I do. I have had Crohns since 1995, and for about a year now, Ive been having leaking problems.

I told my doctor, he told me to try Benefiber, but as of now no real results.

I need to wear 2 pairs of underwear, and never light colored pants. When I wake up in the morning, and I'm soaked. I sleep in the spare bedroom.

My wife doesn't understand this disease, and now this...

Anybody else experience this problem, and what do you do ?

Thanks

and God Bless

After 42 years of Crohn's I have just noticed spots on the sheets, but I think that it comes from having a large amount of gas.

Merlin - Give good old fashion Metamucil a try.  It is a different kind of fiber than BeneFiber that worked for me for over 45 years before I started taking Humira.  Try a heaping teaspoon in a 5 oz.glass after breakfast, and another after dinner.  I used to mix it in orange juice, though over the years I got to the point where I would just use plain water.  It comes with and without sugar, and in a plain or orange flavor.  Try the orange flavor with the sugar.  If it works for you, then you can experiment with the plain and the sugar-free.  Also experiment with the amount you take and how many doses a day you might need.  I would also push your doctor to work a little harder at finding out how to get you into remission, thus slowing down the amount of diarrhea you are having each day.  You'll know right away whether or not Metamucil will provide you some help or not.  It's purpose is to help soften stools for people with problems with constipation; but for those of use with diseases like Crohn's, it actually acts as a bulking agent by absorbing some of the excess liquids not absorbed by the bowel.  You can buy Metamucil in any local pharmacy.  The suggestion that you consider Depends or some other form of adult "underwear" is a good one.  There were times when I wore them to bed when I was having a flare, and the slightest passing of gas would also generate an accident.  Good luck, and let us know how you do. - Bob

Thanks for the input.

To answer your question, it's feces. No matter what I try to explain to my Doctors , they keep telling me to get a Colostomy. Naturally, I'm scared, and I just want to try other alternatives... ( for now )

Merlin, define leaking.  Urine or feces?

Being a female, I had problems leaking urine and was put on a small dosage medication for it which helped tremendously.  If you are having issues from the other end, I would seriously consider getting ahold of a doctor or GI doctor.

Seriously, in the meantime, wear Depends.  That is what they are there for.

In terms of your wife, maybe if she visited us here, or if you share some websites with her about this disease(s) we suffer from, maybe she will have a little more compassion.
