cold after cold after cold

Sun, April 12, 2009 12:00 AM

I am taking 150mg Azathioprine a day and my immune system is shot.  For the past four months I have been getting one cold after another no matter how careful I am when out in public.  Does anyone have any practical ideas on how to protect myself from getting sick all the time?  Does anyone wear a face mask or gloves....geesh, not something I really want to do but will if it helps staying healthy.

Hello!  I have a great recommendation for you to avoid getting colds.  Earlier this year I was sick constantly for almost 2 month.  I would feel better for 3-4 days...then back it came. Sore throat, stuffy nose, sinus issues, aches, etc.  I went to the Dr repeatedly thinking I must have a bactierial infection or strep throat...something they could treat but no.  She finally prescribed me antibiotics just because she didn't know what else to do for me...we had been trying to aviod that.  I never actually took the pills and got better quickly and have not been sick since.  What was the trick....I stopped at the Health Food store and purchased a Neti-Pot. I don't swim well so the thought of pouring water in my nose freaked me out but AMEN...it worked and didn't hurt at all.  I regret having not done this sooner!  The Neti-Pot cost about $14 and then a small package of the special salt was $3 and will last over a year. Do a search on-line so you can get some informed...some sites show you a video of someone doing it which helped me a lot with positioning my head.  I have kept doing this about twice a week for prevention but I do one pot and split between each nostril instead of a full pot in each nostril like when sick.   Good luck

I drink oj everyday, eat plenty of fruits, and wash my hands before I eat. I also wipe down my work space with anitbacterial wipes. That seems to help me.

Your immune system is out of wack.

Since I have changed my diet and added supplements that improve my gut flora I rarely get sick.  Unlike before when I ate the typical American diet...high in carbs, low in veggies and all the bad oils.  I used to always get sick and it would hit me like a ton of bricks.

My daugher and wife have recently got sick and I'm holding strong.  A few weeks ago my daughter caught a nasty virus going around, puking and diarreha.  I avoided all that as well.
