1 year follow-up colonoscopy - high anxiety !

Tue, April 21, 2009 4:42 PM

Hi All.

I'm going in tomorrow for my 1 year follow-up colonoscopy for UC. I was diagnosed last March. Was on prednisone through June of last year, and have been on Asacol since then. So far so good ..... I do however have high anxiety regarding this test. My attitude .... just leave well enough alone. If anyone wants to share their follow-up stories, I could use the comfort.

Everytime I have a follow-up colonoscopy I get anxious.  I'm afraid that they will find something bad (I'm 23 and I've had the disease since I was 17).  The last one I had was awesome because they told me I was in remission, but then I flared up like 10 months later...I'm due for one this summer and I'm anxious because I finally feel like I'm doing pretty well again!

Good Luck!!!

I think even non-Crohn's/UC people get anxious about these things too, so you are definitely not alone!!

I felt the same way after I was diagnosed and was coming up on my first annual.  Mine was not good.  The crohns had spread to the op and bottome of my intestine.  Then I was put on Remicade.  This time after my annual colonoscopy I was told that my crohns was inactive.  So no more prednisone, just remicade and a few suppositories as needed! (smiles)  hang in there...it will get better!
