Swine Flu and those of us on immune suppressants

Mon, April 27, 2009 12:00 AM

Okay you can't turn on the news or open the paper without being bombarded with this "epidemic".  Of course I worry because being on immune suppressants doesn't help.  those of you more seasoned folks - can you tell me how worried I need to be.  I wash my hands constantly anyways......   but do we need to worry even more ?

No, you don't need to worry.  Remember, the news media loves a "crisis" and loves to whip everyone up into a frenzy.  In everywhere but Mexico, cases of the swine flu have been described as mild.  Just take ordinary precautions.  I would NOT, mind you, make any trips to Mexico!

It is reassuring to know that I am not the only one thinking about this.  I have had such a tough month that the last thing I need is to worry about getting a new type of flu out there.  I am on Prednisone and Imuran right now.  I work in a hospital but not directly in patient care.  I know I could do alot better with washing my hands too.  I don't know what to think about this Swine Flu.  Some say it is really dangerous but it sounds like it is worse in underdeveloped countries.  What is there ... like 20 confirmed US cases and all have recovered just fine.  I know I will be praying for my health even heavier with the threat of this flu.
