UC and Weight Watchers

Wed, June 17, 2009 12:00 AM

I have gained a ton of weight over the past couple years from steroids and having a baby.  Right now I am taking prednisone, 6mp, and Asacol.  To lose weight I decided to do Weight Watchers but I find that I am so hungry every day that I am getting headaches.  I was wondering if because I have 5 or more BM's every day if I need to increase my daily points.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

karen,

thank you for your reply.  yes, that does help.  i have been using all my points and some of the flex points and i have also realized that there will be some days that i will be over in points or may not be able to eat the fruits and vegetables.  i am trying not to be so *** myself, exercise more, and just be more concious of the things i am eating.  i have only been doing this a week now so i will see how it all works.  i am glad to hear you have had good results.  i am hoping that it will get a little easier once i get off the prednisone since it makes me bloated and hungry.  thanks for your encouragement i will stick with it.

Hi,

Sorry, but this may be a long post.

You may want to talk to your leader if you go to meetings.  I have Crohns and joined ww last July, because of all the weight I gained.  I have been on Prednisone, made me eat like a horse.  Currently I am on Asacol, 6mp and Remicaide.  I go for my treatments every 6 weeks, every time I went I would be up another 5lbs.

I told my leader I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to do the program because of all the veges/fruits and dairy you need.  She told me to do the best that I can.  To date I have lost 37lbs.  I eat what I can and use lactose free milk and butter.

If you are losing more than the recommended 2 lbs per week, you may need to bump up your points.  Are you eating all you daily points?.  Use your 35 weekly as well.  I use every bit I get and also any activity points earned.  Don't be afraid to use them.

Hope this helps,  Karen.
