Binkie,  I was born with a murmur and was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse also.  I've had UC for about 25 yrs.   Thanks for sharing.  Cami

I had chest pains too and my GI couldn't find a reason so he sent me to a cadiologist, I had all the tests and they all came back fine. I recently read, (maybe on here somewhere) that some of us with UC who have joint pain get it in the joint in our ribcage which is a piece of cartilage in the center of the chest just above the sternum! No doctor ever suggeted this as a possibility!!! It makes sense to me since all my joints ache almost all the time.

I have UC and gurd I too thought it was my acid reflux that was causing the chest pains until last week i woke up as usual with chest pains, heart racing not feeling well (as usual when I am having a flare-up of my UC) so I finally got back to sleep woke up in the mourning still not feeling well took my meds(asacol, nexium, predisone) but no relief got appt with Dr. long story short I was having a heart attack they said at the time it was a second event. Had blocked artery 100%. Thing is I had stress test, echo cardio-grams and the works done 6 months ago all was normal. It just worries me that everyone kept putting things off to the UC and side effects of the medicine. Just dang scary

My doctor had me go to a cardiologist to have a stress test done, which came back abnormal so I had to have an angiogram done which showed all systems were go.  To this day I still have the problem (racing heart beat) when I go to bed, rare occassions during the day.

Funny, I didn't have this problem until I was diagnosed with Crohn's.

i do but i was born with a murmer and in high school i kept having pain so my mom took me to a cardiologist and found that i have mitral valve prolapse.  i notice too, tho, that when i'm anxious more (which will often coincide with my crohn's symptoms) that my heart will race.  but for me, i don't think crohn's actually causes my heart things.  my brain does.

Thanks for your info. I have also been waking up several times during the night with my heart racing. Sometimes it takes a long time to go back down to normal, scary stuff. My heart dr said he thought everything was OK, wanted me to have an echo stress test scheduled this coming Tuesday just to make sure, but the wait to find out something is what bothers me.

I, too, have chest pain associated with Crohn's.  The first time it happened, thought I was having a heart attack.  Scared me.  But it wasn't my heart or that side that hurt, it was smack in the middle of my chest.

Since then, (and two endoscopies), I have been diagnosed with GERD, a stomach that produces too much acid, an esophagus that spasms and a hiatal hernia.  Drugs that the doctor can prescribe (if your insurance will accept it) is Protonix, Nexium, or Prevacid.  I currently take the Prevacid as needed and it's working.  You would think with normal acid reflux, one would get the feeling associated with it, but I hardly do.  I get the chest pain.  There is also a drug that you can take, you put it under your tongue (not nitro), and it is suppose to relax the muscles and the esophagus, but I quit taking it as it doesn't work as well as the Prevacid.

Hope this helps.  I'll keep you in my prayers.
