Crohns Recipes

Mon, September 28, 2009 6:46 AM

Does anybody know of a crohns cookbook that is out there just for Crohns and colitis diets? Or does anybody have a favorite recipe that they cook that you stomach can handle?  I'm tired of eating the same ol food. Any suggestions or recipes would be great.

I've purchased quite a few UC/Crohn's cookbooks over the years.  By far, the one that has helped me the most is What to Eat with IBD by Tracie Dalessandro.  The first half of the book is very good information on what foods heal and hurt.  I was able to expand the number of food choices.  I found her suggestions on what to eat have been very well tolerated.  There are also chapters on supplements, eating out, and food safety I've found to be helpful.  The second half is recipes and all have been great.  I actually had a dinner party with just recipes from the book and I was asked for the recipe.  The recipes are easy to make.  I also love that the ingredients are simple.  When I'm sick, the last thing I need are complicated recipes or running around town to find some obscure health food.  This book was the perfect solution.

Books that I ultimately felt were a waste of money were those based on the specific carbohydrate diet, maker's diet, or Probiotic and Prebiotic Recipes for Health: 100 Recipes that Battle Colitis.  I know some people have had great results with the first two books but I did not notice any improvement.  The third book had recipes loaded with seeds, nuts, and high fiber.  Best of luck on your recipe search!

I saw a book out there that was Crohns Recipes.  I saw it at Borders Books.

I tried to follow some of that stuff, but I am just not disciplined.  I eat pretty much what I want, but then again I have been pain free since July of this year.  I would like to say that I am in remission, but too scared to go that far just yet.  But when I was really in bad shape, my husband would make soups or eggs, just really soft foods.

But try Borders Books.  That's where I found one.  I think there was just the one book I saw and it was just for Crohns.  Hope that helps you out some, I don't know where you live but I would assume that Border books is all over I think.  Take care.
