Seasonal Flu Shot

Fri, October 02, 2009 12:00 AM

My Crohn's is active, and I've been on 30/40 mg of Prednisone for almost 4 weeks - my workplace is holding their annual flu shot in 2 weeks, and I was wondering if I should get one.

Thanks.

I agree with the others about calling the doctor. I'm on Humira for Crohn's right now, and have been getting the seasonal flu shots for some years (not the live vaccines). I've had no more trouble with them than anyone else, and haven't contracted flu in years (knock on wood). We should all remember to be careful, too, to keep our hands washed often, and follow all the other precautions right now to avoid possible contaigion.

I agree with the call your doctor advice.  My daughter is on 30 mg of prednisone and they did want her to have it though.  Be sure it is the shot (dead virus) and not the mist (weakened virus) if your doctor gives you the go ahead.

I would call your doctor who prescribed the prednisone. And also find out if it is a live vacine or dead one before you call your doctor so you can let them know what kind it is.
