Public Restroom Issue, especially guys out there

Mon, March 10, 2008 4:01 PM

Hey Guys, I dont know if this is a problem for you, but I notice more and more that in public restrooms where you are likely to encounter a crowd (i.e. at a concert or sporting event) where there are both urinals and stalls, there is always a line for the stalls(far fewer of these than urinals) and it seems that all of these men are just being too shy to use the urinals as none of them are using the toilet for what I need it for. I wan't to yell at them but don't, and have had several close calls from having to wait. Even worse, when I finally get into the toilet I get yelled at to hurry up. Am I out of line thinking that I shouldn't have to wait for these guys to be able to use the toilet if there are urinals not being used or that have a much shorter line and that people need to be a little more understanding of peoples need to actually poop in a public toilet. I do not begrudge dads w/ children using the stall but come on, waiting for 10 plus minutes behind 15- 40 something guys w/ enlarged prostates who have been chugging beer for the last 2 hours to be able to use one of only 2 stalls in a restroom w/ 8 urinals is painful and infuriating. I know that women out there are probly experts at dealing with restroom lines, any suggestions or anecdotes from others out there would be appreciated.

There's nothing worse than being so close to relief and having to wait. Have you tried asking people to let you in front?

Well,  women never get used to the lines either  There is never a urinal option and even if there are 6 - 10 stalls there is always a long line.  My daughter has crohn's -- when she was  little it was easier to get one of the ladies to feel bad and take  their place in line-- she is 15 now and very shy-- nobody wants to move for a teen .  These women change their clothes in there , fix make up, talk on the phone-- all of the things they could without a toilet.  I have actually gone into mens room and cleared it out and then allowed her to go in and stood guard.   But i feel for you guys too-- I don't think that i have ever been into a men's room with more than 3 stalls.

I have also encountered that both at football games and large weekend fairs. I choose to flip on the "ignore" switch. What else can you do? And what will they do? Nobody wants confrontation. One time at a weekend fair I had people pounding on the sides of a port-a-potty. Pounding! However, when I was done I moved on. You get the comments, etc but they don't know you from Adam and wouldn't recognize you if they passed you 10-minutes later.
