telling your boyfriend you have cc

I have been seeing someone for 9 months. Just recently I have been experiencing a long lapse of flare ups. I have not told him I have CC. I am trying to figure out why I have not-- is it shame/ embarrassment? I am not sure how to handle this. Find myself making excuses and being less available to him since my flare ups.

I'm in my 30's and have been diagnosed with UC since 1995, so you would think i was confortable with telling someone i'm dating about my condition. However, I totally understand it's embarassing. I think you will find that if he is truely in love with you, he will want to take care of you. It's important for the person in your life to know what's going on with your health, otherwise i have found they tend to think it's something they have done, or that i'm not interested in them anymore, if i'm having a flare up and not energetic or in the mood.

i've been with my boyfriend for over a year now, and i told him about 2 weeks into dating him. Guess what? He has crohn's and now we are able to be open and help each other when we are feeling sick. Tell him, you will feel better.

Oh Honey, just tell him. It's amazing how many people know someone who knows someone... I would just say its a stomach condition that comes and goes and you take meds to help control it. No reason to go into detail, if he's around long enough the details won't matter anymore.

I can definatly relate and for me it also took about a good year to explain exactly what my disease entailed. For me, I guess I was just embarrassed and didn't know how to explain it. But honestly, any descent person would want to understand your condition and he would probably be more concerned that you are ok. Maybe if you are too embarassed to tell him the details you could tell him about the chron's and colitis website so he can do some research on his own so it's not as uncomfortable for you.
