Nutrasweet- Aspartame- Artificial sweeteners.

Mon, December 28, 2009 3:39 PM

I would be remiss if I did not try to bring this book to the attention of all of you IBD sufferers since our goal here is to try and be as healthy as possible. If you are consuming any of this artificial sweetener please read this book. It has been around since 2001, so you can probably get it at your local library. It is as the book title says, POISON.

Aspartame is a chemical that was created as a medication for ulcers. They discovered that it was sweet with no calories so they made it into a diet sweetener, composition unknown to this day. Instead of approving it as a medication which would require it to be monitored and regulated, they made it a food additive which does have to be regulated and monitored. Stevia is from a plant I believe that grows in the southern hemisphere. I know little about it other than that.

Interesting that you mention it. I had consistantly been consuming a couple of cans of diet soda daily. After my diagnosis, it was one of the items I eliminated. I have no intention of using artificial sweetners again.  And, I seem to be in remission. It wasn't the ONLY change I made, but overall, I have cleaned up my act, and am being mindful of what I eat.
