Support Groups

Wed, February 17, 2010 5:35 PM

I was just wondering how many people attend support groups on a regular basis?  I am going to my first meeting next Wednesday in Elk Grove Village, IL.  Anyone happen to be attending that specific support group? How much do you think they help?  Thanks everyone.

Please feel free to stop by my personal IBD site at www.lonelysmallintestine.com.

Hi:

I go to a support group in the Phoenix,Az. area. If the group in Elk Grove is anything like mine, you won't regret getting involved. We are between 10 and 20 people going in a round table fashion talking about what the last month has been like, what new info. we've encountered  etc.and generally offering help and support to each other. Occasionally we have guest speakers. Since no 2 of us are alike, no speaker can address all of our concerns. Our best meetings are the round tables. Spouses are welcome. We all agree that unless someone has a lifetime illness such as Crohns or UC. They don't understand no matter what they say. Go back and read my post Genetically Defective under emotional wellness and you'll know where I come from. I've had Crohns since 1964 with 2 surgeries. I had in-laws who thought I was going for an Oscar and no defense from my husband. Good luck at the meeting and let me know how it went at momzwier@aol.com
