My daughter, 13, suffers with UC.  When she flares she consumes Jimmy John's Country Club subs with no mayo and no lettuce.  They settle well for her, and have lots of calories to help her maintain her weight.  She also will drink the carnation shakes periodically that Lizzie's Mom mentioned.

Good luck to you.

But they are too expensive and sometimes I just dont think they are helping me :(.. but I sure will follow your tips!! I went to my GI today and he said I wont be able to gain weight until I have CD under control! I start today on my 6mp  I hope it works am tired of being sick! how is you girl doing?

Hi Luz,

My daughter is also struggling with weight gain.  Her doc gave us lots of tips.   The main idea is to add more safe calories.  Our doc suggested adding "Boost Plus" to her daily intake.  Each bottle contains 360 calories.  I have to be honest, it isn't the best tasting stuff and she now refuses to drink it.  The difference is she is only 10 (and is sooo stubborn),you on the other hand are a young adult and want to do it....big difference than being told to do something, especially as a young child.   Carnation Instant Breakfast is another good thing, not to have as the actual breakfast, but to have maybe as a snack or with breakfast.  Lots of nutrients and add'l calories.

Being the Boost was "bust", I started keeping all natural ice cream in the freezer.  Hot fudge sundaes are yummy.  I'm not sure if you have a lactose issue or not, if you do , there are now lactose free avail in most grocery stores.  We add olive oil to steamed veggies., add gravy to mashed potatoes, chicken, roasted meats, dip fruit into whipped topping, melted choc., etc.   Our doctor explained all the things people typically cut from their diet to lose, to start adding on.   It does make a difference.  One thing that works best for my daughter is to eat smaller meals, with lots of "safe" snacks in-between.  She pretty much "grazes" throughout the day.

I hope this gives you some ideas, go ahead, instead of having an egg on an english muffin, melt some cheese into it.

Good luck.
