My husband was diagnosed with Chrohn's in 2006. At that time we were on a group plan at my work but the premium was getting so that we could not afford it anymore. Because is was a group plan, they had to accept him with Crohn's. Since then, I have searched high and low for an insurance company that will cover his condition only to be turned down everytime as soon as they hear the word "Crohn's"! This is so frustrating. Can anybody who has this condition lead me in a direction to be able to get medical insurance for my husband. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks again!

I have not tried this site. Came across it while looking for something else. www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/index.htm explains about cobra and pre-existing conditions. And check with your state government. In the state where I live they have a state insurance plan for people with pre-existing conditions. The premiums are high but you can get coverage.

I was once in your situation. I carried pensioner insurance at a premium price until I went on Medicare. You should have researched this before you gave up the group plan. However, with the health care reform that was just passed those days will soon go away. Until that kicks in, I'm afraid no insurance company will insure him at any price. The only thing you can hope for is a catsastrophic hospitalization and then he will qualify for welfare insurance in whatever state you live in. Somtimes I envy those people with their $1.00 co-pay and free meds. Not a pleasant thought but at least he will have insurance. Good Luck, Marilyn

Try the National Patient Advocacy Foundation, they are great! And, definitely try www.needymeds.org is excellent. Also, many drug companies; like Abbott (maker of Humira), Simplicity (maker of Cimzia) can place your husband in a special program whereby the medicine is discounted at a cheap price. For instance, I am currently in one for which I pay $5 for 2 syringes (with insurance the cost is about $60 and without insurance the cost is $1,974). I hope this helps you.
