Just wanted to know if there are others out there who have experienced a Crohns flare up after a pregnancy? Is this common? I had a baby in September and a couple moths after delivery I started getting some of my old symptoms back. Prior to this recent flare up I had been in remission for 4 years after undergoing surgery. I've continued taking my medication all along Pentasa and 6mp. My flare up has not been too extreme yet but it does make it hard to work full time and take care of my little man everyday. I'm sure the stress of being a new mom and the lack of sleep may have something to do with my recent flare up

After my first pregnancy I didn't have too much of a problem, but after my second I had a major flare....pretty much have been having flares ever since then (the past two years) until I started Remicaide this past January. I actually decided to stop having children and had my tubes tied because I have been so sick. Between the meds and my health, medical bills, and being too dang tired to take on another baby, I didn't think it was wise to have another one. And my GI said it was possible that with each pregnancy I could get sicker and sicker. This is a risk I cannot take with two kids to take care of already.

i have 2 kids and with both pregnancies i went into remission during the pregnancies and could eat anything i wanted (which was fantastic!!) and then about 4 to 5 months after each delivery i experienced a flare-up. they were about a month long each time if i remember correctly. i hear its different for everyone, but normal to have happen (if that makes sense).

I too had flairs after my first child which I was not on medication with and after my second. I found that in my case I had gone on hormon pills and that had helped my flairs to start. My doctor said he didn't think that would cause the flair but did not denin it either espically once I stopped the pills and my flair stopped.
I know after pregnancy anyway your hormones are all over the place. For me I have gotten both times the baby blues. But, I think now in retrospect it was just the inbalence in my system that causes these flairs.

I had a similar experience after my son was born. My doctor said it is typical, as your immune system basically shuts itself down somewhat while you're pregnant, and then kicks back into high gear with the hormone switch after birth. And yes, getting run down definitely makes it worse! I waited way too long when I got sick after the baby to go to the doctor - don't let it get out of control. Talk to your doctor! Best of luck, and congratulations!

My pregnancies seemed to put and keep me in remission. I did have a SBO that put me in the hospital when my first was 6 mo old, but after the second I was in remission for a few years. Then I started getting little flares every month and was informed that hormonal changes can trigger them. I'm sure your body is still going through changes and that could very well do it. I actually changed birth control pills a few months ago and it seemed to cause a severe flare that I've not been able to get under control. Any hormone changes you can control, like switching pills, etc, I would certainly avoid. Congratulations on the baby!!
