I need a job but am at a loss.

So!  My name is Zack and I've had Crohn's since I was 15.  My main issue currently is that when I try to do anything that doesn't come naturally to me, my nerves go all antsy and it causes my intestines to flip out and make me have to go to the bathroom which ends up making the problem worse.  So when it comes to going to college, it just never has ended well.  In my day to day life I'm not consistent enough to hold down a stable job and we're still in the process of trying to get it under control.

Stay at home jobs typically involve customer service or tele-marketing and there's just...no way I can do those.  Namely because dealing with customers who are ranting doesn't help with the nervous system.  I pretty much am at a point where I need to just get creative and delve in to several different things in an attempt to have income other than disability while waiting for this whole thing to eventually go in to remission.

So!  What jobs come to mind in regards to what I can do from home, at my own pace, or something like that?

Hey Pyro,

Look into online schools.  Some of the universities have alot of courses online and then there are some good online universities.  Be careful and be selective.  I am a mother of 3 young adults and I am just figuring out my "natural" fit.  Crohns gave me the final nudge to make my dreams come true so I am finally beginning a new chapter in my life.  Make a list of what REALLY holds your interest.  Boredom is not a good thing.  You really cannot live your life with the disease controlling you.  Admittedly there are times when extra planning is called for.  The truth about life is that it is not normal.  There will be curve balls thrown at you whether you have IBD or not.  My daughter is facing a curve ball right now and she is living her dream.  Life is ever changing and adapting.

Now, work on getting yourself  into remission or as my Gastro says "non flare".  Be proactive, learn how to relieve stress, learn things you can do to not be nervous.  There is a big wonderful world waiting.

One other thing is a therapist may be able to help you manage your nerves.  You can usually find one in your area on http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/

This may be a helpful way to find a job that fits your personality.  You can then eliminate ones that don't fit your lifestyle:  http://www.hollandcodes.com/self_directed_search.html?OVRAW=sds&OVKEY=self%20directed%20search&OVMTC=advanced&OVADID=5787975511&OVKWID=29958008011&OVCAMPGID=538845511&OVADGRPID=1519513399&OVNDID=ND2#r

Also, are you seeing a GI doctor for your condition?  While it takes awhile for them to find the right medications for you, they should be able to stabilize you enough to go to work.  But if you don't have insurance, I can see how that is not an option.

Hi Zach,

I read your message twice and have a question for you.......what does come naturally to you?  I understand that when thrown into something that doesn't works adversely on your system and makes matters worse.   So, what are some of your interests, what do you enjoy doing?  The key is to figure out how to use an interest and start making money at it.   Some people are crafty and make crafts and sell them at shows, markets, etc.  Others have an hobby they enjoyed as a child, say karate, and teach it young children.  Somebody I once knew used to make a boat load of money on the side because he was a computer geek.   He was actually a GENIUS......he'd fix everybodies computer glitches and make cash on the side.

Sorry this may not be a "written in stone" answer, but only you know what your true passions and strengths are.   Take the information and help others with it.....the money will follow.

Good luck
