help and advice

Tue, April 27, 2010 12:00 AM

My husband was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease about 12 yrs ago.  These last few weeks have been absolutely horrible for him, nothing is relieving the pain that he is experiencing in his right lower abdomen, same place the pain started 12 yrs ago.  He eats and it seems like it is worse, but he is trying to mask the pain because he doesn't want us to know how bad it truly is.  He is refusing to go to the doctor because at the moment we do not have health insurance, we are working on ways to get the insurance but I don't know if he will even go to the doctor when he has the insurance.  Any advice or even moral support would be appreciated.

Thank you and I truly feel for everyone that has been struck with CD or UC.

Yes, the soup that Breezy suggested is healthy & bland enough to be eaten and not cause pain & irritation.

Hopefully, if you do get insurance, your husband will be wise enough to take advantage of it.  Why have it, if you don't plan to use it in cases like this?  He has to take the 1st step and help himself.  Try to communicate that to him in a supportive and caring way.

Try the chicken soup from the Specific Carb Diet.  You can get the recipe online.  It helps.  The danger of malnutrition is something to be avoided.  Water aggravates me if I am inflammed.  Teas, weakened juices are my go to drinks.  Cut out as many processed carbs as possible.  Pasta is my enemy.  Try eating a banana a day.  Sports drinks seem to aggravate the situation.  Try a baked sweet potato (yam).  Nothing fried or rough.  Walk.  Take probiotics.

Now, research and research.  Keep a diary.  Try to add some gentle yoga.  If hubby snarls at Yoga, call it stretching.

I am pro diet.  Diet is a personal choice.  I will tell you that diet has helped me tremendously.  I have been diagnosed with Crohns for 18 years now.  My how time flies.  Get this under control.  Life in a flare is no life at all.  Have safe foods for him.  Flares make us snarly.  Take care of yourself.  He wants you to.  The guilt we feel for "messing up" life for the ones we love can be tremendous.  My hubby used to just rub my feet.  It calmed me when the pain was overwhelming.

Hugs!
