Hola

Tue, August 31, 2010 10:31 AM

There's no introductory forum here I don't think, so I'm doing it here. Hola, my name is Laura and i'm on that necessary evil 6MP as u can guess by my screen name. I'm no newbie to Crohn's and will get my personal story up sometime soon. I've had 2 major surgeries, lots of bloodwork, CT scans, at least 4 barium upper GIs, 3 EGDs and 6 colonoscopies or as I call 'em, "butt scopes".

Something to chew on-I truly think I would not be as healthy as I am today if I had no pets. Animals are a wonderful source of free therapy and my four legged furry critters have been wonderful over the years! :)

My name is Laura too! And animals do get it. I have two cats, Katie and Pumpkin. When either I or my daughter are sick with anything, Katie will snuggle up and stay with us. I agree that pets are wonderful.

Yes!  I have two black cats who have kept my company through the ins and outs of crohns flares, hospitalizations and surgery.  I love them and they comfort me without speaking, talking or anything stressful.  It is pure sweet love.  I am blessed.

Glad to know I'm not alone. I have 6 little doxies. Lucy(littlest) sleeps right up agaist my belly when I am in pain and will not leave me. They know! They get it.

Me too!!  We have a rescued pit bull mix that is the world's gentlest dog.  She sleeps at the foot of my son's bed but when Claire was so sick?  You guessed it - she slept at the foot of her bed and laid on the floor in front of the couch right next to Claire for hours.  I told people Penny was better than any medicine the doctor could prescribe!

Hi Laura,

I'm also on 6 MP (along with Humira). I totally agree with your pets statement. I always say no one around me gets what I'm going through, and I usually end up upset or frustrated by people who mean well but it comes out like blame or criticism of how I'm living. Not my cats though. I truly believe they know I am sick. They are usually pretty take-you-or-leave-you animals, but every time I have been home sick from work, my cats rally around me on the couch and lay with me, purring. It's so nice to just have everyone shut the heck up for a while, and have my cat just keep me company when I'm under the weather, and just love me. Thank goodness for animals.
